British GT revised calendar

Last Wednesday the organisers of British GT announced a revised calendar for racing in 2020, starting on the first weekend of August and running through to early November. It is great to see this after two months of not knowing whether we would get going at all, and fearing that otherwise there may only be enough time for one or two race meetings in the year. Clearly this revised calendar remains subject to Covid-19 staying under control and the lock down measures being eased to plan.

The proposed schedule is going to be a tough one, starting with three race weekends in August – there is nothing quite like being thrown in at the deep end and having to repeat it week after week! I am looking forward to it though. I can’t wait to get out of the simulator and back into the car. Sim racing has been fun these last few months but it is also very frustrating when you get taken out by other Sim racers in the types of moves that they would never even consider doing on a real track.

Looking forward then, we are planning to get some on track testing lined up in July (lock down permitting), followed by the nine scheduled races over six weekends – five sprint and four endurance – please do look at the BritishGT.com website for more details of each event.

Unfortunately, I won’t be surprised if the race days will all have to be closed to the public – although going racing with crowds of up to 10 thousand was one of the elements that I was really looking forward to experiencing – so here’s hoping that at least some of the later events can be run in front of a crowd. Meanwhile, I hope everybody is healthy and finding the positives!
